Ditto to the above questions. If she only has a year contract, it should end in November. However, I want to believe her contract will run at least through the holidays.
Color Purple hands down. However, I rushed for Fiddler on a Wednesday last month, got there an hour before the box office opened, and was only third in line. My seat was in the third row from the stage too. So if I were you, I'd buy a ticket for Color Purple, and if you have time, Rush for fiddler.
On the strength of this thread I went to see Color Purple last night. It was a beautiful experience although I didn't think the score is a truly great musical score.
Thanks for all the feedback guys! Color Purple it is - seriously psyched based on what some of you guys have shared (and I loved your insightful review @poisonivy2). Loving cynthia erivo is a given, but I can't wait to see Danielle Brooks too - she seems like she's unfortunately been a bit under appreciated, and that girl was growlin' on the tonys and stealing her number in the medley.
Saw The Color Purple on Thursday, and it exceeded my expectations. Prior to Thursday, I was unfamiliar with the music and also not convinced such simple staging could get the job done for me. The performances by the entire cast were fantastic though. Erivo's acting surprised me more than her rediculous voice! I mean that in the best way! Headley and Brooks deserve all of the praise they have been receiving too. Color me a new fan.
Seriously - I'm really psyched based on what you guys have said. Sometimes the best shows are the most minimalist ones, ala Once. And between Erivo, Headley, Brooks (seriously, during her part of the medleys on the Tonys, I'm pretty sure I felt like one of those women in a gospel church holding a fan saying "sing it girl!"
