Musical theatre lovers will return to the Harlem Renaissance in New York City when Make It Happen Theatre Company, Inc. (MIH) brings Loften Mitchell's jumping musical revue, Bubbling Brown Sugar, to the Carver Theatre June 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. This commemorative production will not only honor and celebrate the lives and contributions of the late Dr. Frank Adams and Mr. Bill Harris, two incredible Birmingham educators who dedicated themselves to teaching young artists, but funds generated will help provide children of low-income families with scholarships to attend the 2016 MIH Summer Performing Arts Academy at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

A lively and inspiring musical under the direction of MIH Founder and Artistic Director, Alicia Johnson-Williams, Bubbling Brown Sugar swings and soars as the Birmingham cast transports its audience back to 1920's Harlem to explore the music and artists of the age, while celebrating the style, life, wisdom and glamour they brought to the Harlem landscape.

"This production is a very big deal for us," said Williams. "Firstly, it pays homage to the Harlem Renaissance. Secondly, it commemorates two very significant Arts Educators in our Community and thirdly, a portion of the proceeds will go towards scholarships to afford some of our young people an opportunity to develop their talents through our summer performing arts camp," said Williams. "It has been exciting to work with our local artists on this show. The production is truly going to be enjoyable and entertaining because it is full of great, familiar music and talented performances. It has something for everyone and let's not forget... it is for a good cause."

The talented leads of this highly-anticipated production include Birmingham soul-singer, Toy Matthews, owner of Ferrill African Wear, Shirley Ferrill, budding choreographer and performer Byron Bradley, spoken word artist Delores Byrd Smith, artist Sabrina Vargas and many more. Musical Direction is being led by Percussionist and Drumming Instructor, Ray Robinson.
