Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC), in a co-commission with First Stage of Milwaukee supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, brings to the stage the world premiere musical, Ella Enchanted, directed by Mary Hall Surface and written by Karen Zacarias and Deborah Wicks La Puma. Adapted from the book by Gail Carson Levine, this female written and directed musical is recommended for all ages and opens February 3, 2017. Tickets are $19.50 each and can be purchased online at www.adventuretheatre-mtc.org or by calling 301.634.2270.

"I am so excited to bring a real, smart, spirited heroine to the stage for an audience who needs to hear it, both at this time in history and at this stage of these kids' development," Bobbitt says. "It crafts messages about oppression, privilege, and independence in a Cinderella, fairy tale format that these kids can easily digest while having an amazing time."

Baby Ella of Frell is given the "gift" of obedience by Lucinda, a misguided fairy, and thus cannot disobey any direct order. Then when tragedy strikes, Ella is reduced to an obedient servant in her new home with Dame Olga. Can Ella find a way to rid herself of the troublesome curse?

Mary Hall Surface, director of Adventure Theatre MTC's acclaimed 2008 Goodnight Moon, says, "Ella has all the challenges of every Cinderella plus trying to live with and to break the curse of obedience. Her quest for freedom and self-discovery requires her to face fear and bravery, good and evil, love and loss - a quest all young people experience as they grow up. Her strong, smart, compassionate choices lead her to find her own powerful voice."

Ella Enchanted is recommended for all ages. Tickets are $19.50 each with group and field trip rates available. Due to a database conversion, ATMTC recommends calling 301-634-2270 to purchase your tickets prior to checking online at this time. Children under the age of 1 are free. The press performance will be Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 2pm. All performances will take place at Adventure Theatre MTC, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo, MD, 20812 in the historic Glen Echo Park.
