THE TRAMP'S NEW WORLD, an original one-man show written by and featuring Robert Jansen, will make its Baltimore premiere at the Charm City Fringe Festival, playing at the Baltimore Theatre Project November 6-10, 2013. Tickets are available at www.charmcityfringe.com.

In his office atop the 50th floor of the Chrysler Building, legendary TIME Magazine writer James Agee (Jansen) furiously writes a screenplay he hopes Chaplin Studios will finally accept. His idea is to launch Charlie Chaplin's Tramp character into the Atomic-Age as the only survivor of a super atomic blast. Struggling to write his epic film, we watch as Agee casts himself into the story, playing the childlike Tramp contending for survival amidst the backdrop of a ruined New York City.

THE TRAMP'S NEW WORLD is a one-man show using silent film and projection to adapt Pulitzer-Prize winner Agee's lost screenplay to the stage for the first time. More information is available at thetrampsnewworld.businesscatalyst.com.

Robert Jansen is an award-winning stage actor, playwright, adapter, director, and developer of new work. His solo play Ah, Eugene O'Neill! Or, the Birth, Death, and (Impractical) Rebirth of American Theater, written and adapted from the works and letters of Eugene O'Neill, was selected as part of the Eugene O'Neill Festival at Arena Stage and was featured in The Washington Post and American Theatre Magazine. Previously Jansen has appeared at Arena Stage in the premiere of The Menagerie Variations.

As a resident ensemble member with the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company in Cincinnati, Ohio for six seasons, Jansen performed in 26 productions of classic plays-including lead roles in As You Like It, Twelfth Night, Troilus and Cressida, Long Day's Journey Into Night, among many others. Jansen has also performed as an actor at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, The Shakespeare Theatre, Tennessee Williams Centennial Festival (with Tony Award nominated actress Kathleen Chalfant), Know Theatre of Cincinnati (Cincinnati Entertainment Award, Best Actor in a Lead Role), New Stage Collective, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Seattle Shakespeare Company, St. Croix Festival Theatre, and the Diorama Theatre of London.

As a director, Jansen has staged classics and new work for the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Seattle Public Theatre, Cincinnati Outdoor Classics, and the Prairie Gallery. He has worked internationally, recently in Beijing where he performed Peter Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream for a co-production with the National Academy of Chinese Arts. Most recently he served as Assistant Director to South African playwright and director Yael Farber on Nirbhaya a new work created in New Delhi, India, which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer where it won the Fringe First Award, Herald Angel Award, and the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award. In 2013 he graduated as part of the first MFA in Performance cohort at the University of Maryland School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies.
