Community Theatre is a national treasure and no one recognizes this more than Performing Arts at the Community College of Baltimore County. The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) knows this too and has been a mainstay in providing additional aid to community theatres such as Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre and the Dundalk Community Theatre, both in residence at CCBC. This year, Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre was awarded $8,000 for its summer theater productions and the Dundalk Community Theatre will receive $5,191 to offset the costs of producing upcoming 2016 shows and lowering ticket prices for community residents.

Cockpit in Court Summer theatre has been serving the greater Baltimore area with professional-quality live theater at family-friendly prices for more than 40 years. Every summer, on the CCBC Essex campus, Cockpit in Court offers excellent large-scale musicals in its 388-seat Mainstage Theatre as well as comedies and dramas in the intimate 160-seat Cabaret Theatre, both located in the College Community Center. A high-energy children's musical in the Administration Building's 220-seat Lecture Hall rounds out the summer season. Audiences of more than 8,000 people flock to Cockpit in Court every summer at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard where more than a hundred area artists, performers, directors, and musicians offer their talents on stage and behind the scenes for its widely acclaimed productions.

Musicals, dramas and comedies have built loyal, committed audiences for the Dundalk Community Theatre (DCT), now in its 41st year. And its 2015-2016 season with "Ruthless! The Musical," "The 39 Steps," and "Little Women," presented in the John E. Ravekes Theatre in the College Community Center at CCBC Dundalk, 7200 Sollers Point Road, should continue its sell-out tradition.
