MCC Theater's newly reworked and fully re-imagined production of Carrie, the musical, had its first preview tonight at 7 p.m. at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC). In attendance was Piper Laurie, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance as Margaret White in the film version of Carrie (Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie plays the role in the musical). The New Group opened Russian Transport, written by Erika Sheffer, in a world premiere limited engagement last night, January 30. Previews began January 17 and the show runs through March 10, 2012. Directed by Scott Elliott, the production features Janeane Garofalo, Daniel Oreskes, Morgan Spector, Sarah Steele and Raviv Ullman.
