Texas A&M University's MSC OPAS Announces Upcoming Season

Texas A&M University's MSC OPAS has announced the events coming to the 2013-14 "Sparks Will Fly" season. The organization unveiled a roster of performances to be presented from September 2013 to April 2014 that includes eight events on the Ann Cobb Wiatt Main Stage series, five on the Intimate Gatherings series, two on the OPAS JR series and two on the new OPAS Family series.

Season ticket packages offer savings opportunities ranging from 10-20% off single ticket prices. Season ticket package buyers are seated before single ticket buyers. Unless noted otherwise, all events will be performed in the Rudder Theater Complex at TAMU in College Station, Texas.

Of the new season, OPAS Executive Director Anne Black states, "The members of our Program Advisory Committee emphasized that they wanted to create a season that includes something for everyone." She explains, "We realized something very special while celebrating our anniversary last season. OPAS brings people together. From families to first dates, from co-workers to lifelong friends, people love enjoying live entertainment with us. And that's something that hasn't changed in 40 years. This season continues that wonderful tradition." Committee members are Charley Bankston (Chair), Greg Anderson, Carole Taylor, Michael Wesson, Loretta Foster, Sally Godfrey, Susan Birdwell, Bob Howard, TAMU students Stephen Dawkins, Gentry Leonard and Eric Bruton and Black.

The ANN COBB WIATT MAIN STAGE series opens with two performances of a one-of-a-kind Cirque/rock experience with Cirque Dreams Rocks (September 17 & 18, sponsored by Aggieland Credit Union). Following that, The Official Blues Brothers Revue rolls into Rudder for one-night-only (October 22, sponsored by Allstate). November welcomes the 2010 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Memphis (November 19 & 20). In December, OPAS will present a concert by one of the Lone Star State's favorite singers - Michael Martin Murphey - performing his Cowboy Christmas concert (December 3, sponsored by Spirit of Texas Bank). Those hot blokes from Australia - The Ten Tenors - bring their all-new "On Broadway" concert to Rudder (January 28 & 29). The Moscow Festival Ballet, one of the world's most critically praised dance companies, will perform Romeo & Juliet (February 19,Sponsored by Wells Fargo). Two Broadway musicals close out the Main Stage season when the high-flying hit Bring It On: The Musical (March 20 & 21) tumbles on to the Rudder stage followed by the musical that changed Broadway forever - West Side Story (April 8 & 9). Season ticket packages for all 8 events start at $239 or patrons may choose to select 5 favorites for as little as $159. Broadway 4-pack packages (Memphis, The Ten Tenors, Bring It On and West Side Story) start at $136. All Main Stage events will be performed in Rudder Auditorium at TAMU.

The INTIMATE GATHERINGS series, sponsored by Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, First Victoria, and Sterling Auto Group, starts off with one of the hottest acts currently touring the globe - 2Cellos starring Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser (October 29). Tony Award-nominated stage and screen actor Stephen Lang (best known for playing the Colonel in James Cameron's "Avatar") brings eight American veterans to life in a one-man tour-de-force Beyond Glory - The Story of 8 Men of Incredible Valor: Medal of Honor Winners All (November 6). Five humorous and talented guys playing two trumpets, a French horn, a trombone and a tuba will perform favorite holiday tunes in Christmas with the Boston Brass (December 10). Steve Lippia returns to OPAS performing his new show "Simply Swingin' with Sinatra & Friends" at the Miramont Country Club (February 26-28). And finally, one of the most revered novels of the twentieth century, Fahrenheit 451, comes to life on the stage performed by the impressive actors of the Aquila Theatre (March 27). All Intimate Gatherings events will be performed in Rudder Theatre at TAMU unless noted otherwise and will include a Q&A with the artists after each performance. Season tickets to all five events start at only $187. All season tickets packages include a 3-course meal at the Miramont Country Club for Steve Lippia's cabaret performances.

Sponsored by Chick-Fil-A Aggieland & South College Station and supported in part by OPAS Encore!,OPAS JR brings two literary favorites from the page to the stage with Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells (December 8) and Peter Pan (February 9). Season tickets to OPAS JR are only $29. All OPAS JR events will be performed in Rudder Theatre at TAMU.

The 2013-14 season also includes the announcement of a new OPAS FAMILY series. It was created because the two events on this series are larger in scope and appeal to a broader age range than traditional OPAS JR programs. The eye-popping events on the new series are Lightwire Theater (February 22) and Imago Theatre's Frogz (March 29). Season tickets to OPAS Family are only $48. All OPAS Family events will be performed in Rudder Auditorium at TAMU. The new series is also sponsored by Chick-Fil-A Aggieland & South College Station and supported in part by OPAS Encore!
