Penfold to Return to Round Rock with Free AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS
Penfold Theatre Company presents Around the World in 80 Days free-of-charge June 1-24 at the Round Rock Amphitheater.
Phyllida Fogg is a "single woman of means" in Victorian England with a unique virtuosity for mathematical exactitude. In an attempt to break into the influential circles of society held exclusively by men, Miss Fogg risks her life and fortune on a wager that she can circumnavigate the world in only eighty days. What follows is an exciting and hilarious adventure, filled with danger, romance and comic surprises, as six actors playing dozens of characters circle the globe in a dramatic race against time!
Around the World in 80 Days is the seventh production in the "Penfold in the Park" series, an annual offering of free, outdoor summer theatre, made possible by a partnership with the City of Round Rock Parks & Recreation Department.
"Emily Rankin has done a fantastic job translating Verne's classic novel into an imaginative and laugh-out-loud stage play," says Producing Artistic Director Ryan Crowder. "But apart from her dry wit and hyper-theatrical style of storytelling, the aspect I'm most excited about is her reboot of the Fogg character. Phyllida has the same impossible mission and calculator-like mind of the original Phileas, but by making her a woman, Emily introduces a whole new array of social obstacles and gives us a deeper reason to cheer her on."
Around the World in 80 Days is for all ages. No reservations are required. Donations are appreciated.
