Whistling Psyche is a story of reflection, re-evaluation and finally, redemption. Two 19th-century innovators, Florence Nightingale and Dr. James Miranda Barry, wait in a Victorian railway station for a chance to tell their very personal stories, stories that will change the course of medicine forever. Starring Equity actors JoAnna Daniel and Kathleen McManus and directed by Rebecca Frank, this production is being presented under the auspices of the Actors' Equity Association Members' Project Code.

Sebastian Barry's play takes two true-to-life 18th century historical figures, Florence Nightingale and Dr. James Barry, and brings them together in a railway station where secrets and doubts are revealed. Both reformers in the field of medicine, Florence Nightingale would emerge from history a heroine leaving Dr. Barry's achievements forever obscured by an infamous scandal. It was well known that these two people despised one another. Florence Nightingale one said of Dr. Barry: "What horror is this... that I, a notable personage, should be cloistered with this garrulous, opinionated, seditious midget!" And though they would ultimately meet two very different ends, there was more to these medical innovators than anyone could have guessed.

JoAnna Daniel began her professional acting career in the UK, appearing in theatres and venues all round England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Since arriving in Atlanta 22 years ago she has performed with numerous local theatre companies - notably The New American Shakespeare Tavern, Actor's Express, Theatre Gael, and Theatre Emory, among others. She also does voiceovers and audio book recording, has appeared in several TV commercials and corporate videos and even a couple of movies (Golgotha, Mandie & the Forgotten Christmas, Parental Guidance).

Kathleen McManus is a theater artist, educator, wife and mother who has invested over thirty years in the health and vitality of Atlanta's theater community. As an actor, she has delved into the great playwrights from Albee to Zindel. As a director, she has shepherded teenagers through material as diverse as "Lord of the Flies" and "Pride and Prejudice." A three-time recipient of the Suzi Bass Award, Kathleen also teaches at Woodward Academy and is an Artistic Associate at Theatrical Outfit as well as her founding membership in Ar?s Theatre.
