Atlanta Lyric Theatre will present its 34th season of musicals. 2013-14 will be its most spectacular season to date! With five fantastic shows - Mel Brooks' hysterical Tony Award-winning The Producers; Frank Loesser's classic Broadway musical Guys and Dolls; the song and dance extravaganza Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies; everyone's favorite little orphan Annie the Musical; and the irreverently funny musings of Monty Python's Spamalot - the Lyric looks forward to continuing to deliver unforgettable theatrical experiences to its patrons. Additionally, The Lyric will re-mount the successful holiday production of Irving Berlin's White Christmas as an add-on to the season.

The Lyric is thrilled to announce that its 34th season of musicals will be presented at the Cobb Civic Center's Anderson Theatre-a 600-seat venue only 1.5 miles from the Marietta Square, featuring a large stage, spacious orchestra pit, excellent sound system and acoustics, and all the other amenities of a first-class venue for Broadway-quality productions. The Civic Center's Anderson Theatre has hosted big-named acts such as Frankie Avalon, Debbie Reynolds, Ben Vereen, Vicki Lawrence, Linda Eder, Brenda Lee, The Osmond Brothers, and many more.

The Cobb Civic Center also boasts abundant, safe, and well-lit parking adjacent to the theatre. Additionally, The Lyric, along with the City of Marietta, is working on shuttle service to and from the Marietta Square. We remain committed to the retailers and restaurateurs on the Square and look forward to partnering with them on our new and exciting season.

The Lyric is excited to bring its season to the Cobb Civic Center and thanks all those involved for keeping The Lyric in Cobb County, in particular, Cobb County Commission Chairman Tim Lee. The Lyric especially appreciates the efforts of Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin, who presented a generous proposal to The Friends of the Strand (the group that oversees the operations of The Strand Theatre) in order to help The Lyric stay at The Strand. While that proposal was ultimately rejected by The Strand, the Lyric is looking forward to its move to the Cobb Civic Center, because this will allow the theatre to keep its season subscribers and single ticket holders from encountering an increase in their ticket prices. The Lyric is committed to producing professional theatrical productions that are affordable for families to enjoy.

Current subscribers have the first chance to renew and lock-in their preferred dates and seating - but only for a limited time. Renewal sales will begin on April 25th. Season subscriptions and single tickets will go on sale to the general public June 3rd.

2013-14 Atlanta Lyric Theatre Season:

AUGUST 2013: Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks' classic cult comedy film. Now as a big Broadway musical, THE PRODUCERS once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. It is a truly "boffo" hit, winning a record twelve Tony Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night. The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history thereby bilking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom are ever present as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show, hiring a director, raising the money, and finally going to prison for their misdeeds. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks, THE PRODUCERS skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an "equal opportunity offender!"

OCTOBER 2013: Set in vivid, mid-20th century New York City and buoyed by a Frank Loesser score that is among the most immortal works in theater history, GUYS AND DOLLS is American classic that has been called "the perfect musical comedy." Featuring an eclectic ensemble of high-rolling gambler "guys," well-meaning missionary "dolls," and brassy-voiced showgirls, GUYS AND DOLLS is a toe-tappingly fun and romantic fable about gambling men and the strong-willed women who love them. Featuring such classics as "Luck Be A Lady," "I'll Know," "Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat," and, of course, the title song.

JANUARY 2014: The musical legacy of "The Duke" is celebrated in Duke Ellington's SOPHISTICATED LADIES, a stylish and brassy retrospective that has taken audiences and critics alike by storm throughout the world. Winner of two Tony Awards, SOPHISTICATED LADIES is a glorious re-creation of the Duke Ellington big band sound and features all his most famous numbers, from the infamous Speak Easy era of the Cotton Club up to his death, including "It Don't Mean a Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing," "Take the 'A' Train," "Satin Doll," and the haunting "In a Sentimental Mood." Featuring The Atlanta Lyric Orchestra and some of the metro area's most talented performers, this song and dance extravaganza is an abundance of riches from the most sophisticated and sassy jazz king of them all!

APRIL 2014: The sun will come out at The Lyric when the legendary musical ANNIE returns to delight a new generation of theatregoers. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan ANNIE charms everyone's hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. And now, alongside her signature pal dog, Sandy, she's set her sights on making us grin from ear to ear as she inspires a whole new millennium. Winner of 7 Tony Awards including Best Musical, ANNIE - with Music by Charles Strouse, Lyrics by Martin Charnin, and Book by Thomas Meehan - makes its Lyric debut in a brand new production. The score includes the optimistic anthem "Tomorrow," plus "Maybe," "Hard Knock Life," "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile," "Easy Street," "I Don't Need Anything But You," "NYC," and more.

JUNE 2014: Winner of three Tony Awards including Best Musical, Monty Python's SPAMALOT is the outrageous musical comedy lovingly ripped off from the film classic "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." With music and lyrics by the Grammy-Award winning team of Eric Idle and John Du Prez and book by Mr. Idle, SPAMALOT tells the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest for the Holy Grail. Flying cows, killer rabbits, taunting Frenchmen, and show-stopping musical numbers are just a few of the reasons audiences are eating up SPAMALOT.
