Georgia Shakespeare's Singular Voices Presents THE GOSPEL OF JOHN & PROPHETS, 3/23-3/28

Georgia Shakespeare kicks off its 25th Anniversary Season with the one-week-only engagement of Brad Sherrill's widely acclaimed work, The Gospel of John, presented in repertory with the world premiere of his newest work, Prophets. Georgia Shakespeare Associate Artist Brad Sherrill, in his 22nd season with the company, will perform his two one-man shows at the Conant Performing Arts Center. The shows run March 23 through 28.

The Gospel of John
The New Testament gospel is brought to life by one actor and a handful of simple props. Sherrill spent four months memorizing the entire gospel, all 20,000+ words, and has since performed it over 550 times in churches, cathedrals and professional theaters in Canada, the U.K. and Ireland, and across the U.S., including theater runs off-Broadway in New York, and in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. Gospel was last performed at Georgia Shakespeare in 2005 to wide acclaim.

The prophetic texts of the Old Testament are clarion calls for social justice and a return to God and neighbor. Provocative and timely, these texts take us on a journey from judgment to loss to hope, with visions of a world transformed. In this world premiere, Sherrill highlights the scriptures with the use of contemporary images, illuminating their relevance to the here and now of America in 2010. Powerful multimedia imagery and passionate live performance from one of Atlanta's favorite artists bring Isaiah and Jeremiah to life in an extraordinary evening of theater.

PERFORMANCES: Performances in repertory begin with a 10am student matinee on Tuesday, March 23, which is open to the public. Tickets for this performance are $10 for students; $12 for adults. Evening performances are at 7:30pm, Wednesday thru Sunday, March 24-28. Weekend matinees begin at 2:30pm on Saturday and Sunday, March 27 and 28.
