Aurora Theatre assembles the best children's performers in the region, bringing them to Gwinnett County for the series Aurora Children's Playhouse. This winter some of the hottest authors in Children's literature will be represented on stage.

Winter children's performances begin on January 28 with a stage adaptation of the children's classic, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Laura Joffe Numeroff's tale of warped logic is a sure-fire giggle-generator. The hero, a kindhearted little boy, tries his best to please his newfound mouse-friend by granting her request for a cookie. The demanding mouse is never satisfied. As each request is granted, it is followed by another, even more outrageous. Underneath this folly rests valuable lessons about cause and effect in this beginning reader favorite. This show is part of the Aurora Learning Library series and will be performed weekdays for over 7,000 school children in January and February. This is the only public performance therefore advanced reservations are strongly encouraged.

An amazing clowning show by Polytrophic Productions called The Wow Show performs on February 4. Enzo, the clown, relies on his wits (admittedly limited) and the help of his audience to complete his list of tasks. As he attempts to tell the story of a Prince, a Witch and a Princess who loves broccoli, he manages to show that the art of clowning requires a gift for physical comedy, an ability to build rapport with the audience and a keen eye for the absurd.

On February 11, singing storyteller and best selling children's author, Eric Litwin returns with Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes. In this brand new show, Pete the Cat is back- and this time he's rocking in his school shoes. Pete discovers the library, the lunchroom, the playground, and lots of other cool places at school. And no matter where he goes, Pete never stops moving and grooving and singing his song... because it's all good. At one point in 2011 Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes and Litwin's first book Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes were #1 and #2 respectively on the New York Times Bestseller list. Reservations are strongly recommended for this popular performer.

Aurora Children's Playhouse features the regions top children's performers, including: puppeteers, magicians, storytellers, jugglers and musicians intended for youngsters to have their first theatrical experiences. At about 45 minutes in length, perfect for the young attention span, these lively performances are fun for the whole family. Aurora Children's Playhouse performances are held on select Saturday mornings at 10AM unless otherwise noted.

Programming in Aurora Theatre's 2011-2012 Aurora Children's Playhouse is possible through generous support from Metro Waterproofing and the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund.
