During her opening monologue of last Sunday's ACADEMY AWARDS, host Ellen Degeneres focused the cameras on audience member Liza Minnelli and joked that she was the best 'Liza Minnelli' impersonator she had ever seen. Quipped Ellen, "really a great job, sir," implying that the star was actually a male drag queen.

In an interview with TMZ in front of West Hollywood's Craig's restaurant Monday evening, Minnelli shared that she was not thrilled with the gag. "I think she thought that it would be funny, but she never stopped after she said it, to say, 'my friend Liza Minnelli.' So I think it went a little astray on her.' However, the iconic entertainer quickly added, 'But I don't think she meant any harm at all and she's a wonderful lady."
