The AMERICAN MASTERS series website has shared an In Memoriam tribute to actor Dick Van Patten, who passed away yesterday at age 86.

On June 6, 2012, Dick Van Patten was interviewed for American Masters - Mel Brooks: Make A Noise (2013) by Emmy-winning director Robert Trachtenberg. Van Patten's interview didn't make the final film cut.

In this never-before-seen outtake, Van Patten recalls the first time he met Mel Brooks at a Sunday tennis match with Brooks, Carl Reiner, Alan Alda and Gene Wilder. Van Patten was best known for his roles in TV series Eight is Enough and appeared in three Brooks films:Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Spaceballs and High Anxiety. Patten was born in Kew Gardens, NY.
