A tribute concert in honor of David Bowie to be held at New York City's Carnegie Hall on March 31st, has now become a memorial to the artist's life and music. Tickets went on sale yesterday, January 11th and have already sold out.

Organizers for The Music of David Bowie issued a statement on the organization's official site which reads:

The unexpected death of David Bowie has turned this tribute, which we have worked on for the past 7 months, into a memorial concert. While the series has featured surprise appearances and performances of honorees several times in the past, this year's concert will certainly be remembered as a poignant celebration of his music by his friends, peers and fans. We are all deeply saddened by this news. The timing of our public on-sale date is bizarre in its timing and the show is taking on many more emotions. RIP David and may God's love be with you.

Among those expected to perform are Cyndi Lauper, The Roots, Jakob Dylan, Heart's Anne Wilson and The Mountain Goats. The "Music Of" series is an annual project created by City Winery and The Knitting Factory founder Michael Dorf, and raises funds to help music education.

David Bowie passed away over the weekend following an 18-month battle with cancer. He was 69.
