Award-winning company THEATRE 4th PEOPLE is excited to announce an open mic night of artistry and community, of coming together to express, to vent, to share and to heal.

With Election Day only a month behind us, and the Electoral College vote coming up on December 19th, many of us feel we don't know how to directly change our nation's fate. But we do know how to create. We know how to write, to play, and to sing. We know how to speak to the human experience. That is what we, as artists, have to offer. Join us in creating an open mic meant to speak out through our art and to find a safe creative space to reflect. Let's spend our time and energy standing up and speaking out. We encourage artists of all walks of life to join us in sharing work (original or otherwise). Hosted by internationally recognized poet Scottt Raven.

Theatre 4the People is an award-winning theatre company founded by award-winning director Isaac Byrne (The Other Mozart, Tar Baby) and currently headed by playwright/actor Erika Phoebus (Kiss It, Make It Better), we believe the community is an integral part of the heartbeat of creation and that theater should be made accessible to all. From donating a percentage of each production's box office to a charity/organization related to that piece to financially accessible ticketing policies, we revolve around giving back to the community. Theatre 4the People thrives on the development and creation of bold, authentic, original theater. The stories we foster are visceral and poetic yet grounded in social issues.

Scottt Raven is a pun-slinging PENaissance man who tours internationally with the Mayhem Poets, a dedicated teaching artist and workshop leader, playwright, short fiction writer, author and trained actor living in NYC. Most recently seen on stage with the Spoken Word Almanac Project (S.W.A.P), he's also appeared in Buried at the Looking Glass Theater, New Street Poets, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, and Gentleman's Wish, along with commercials for FIAT, AXE Hair, Snickers and Spread the Jam Speakers. With Mayhem Poets he has toured to over 500 theaters, schools and colleges around the world including over 45 states, throughout Canada, Ireland, the Dominican Republic, England, Thailand and Israel.

Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
