Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces the 2013 TRU Writer-Director Communications Lab today, June 29, 2013 from 11am-5pmat The Players Theatre's Steve & Marie Sgouros Theatre, 3rd floor, 115 MacDougal Street, NYC. Ten directors will be paired with ten playwrights in this unique lab that helps nurture one of the most essential - and sensitive - relationships in theater. Four spots remain open for directors, who may apply by emailing TRUnltd@aol.com; TRU is accepting applications from writers until Friday, June 21st. For a writer application, and more details about the workshop, visit http://www.truonline.org/DirectorLabJune13.htm. The cost to participate is $75 for writers and directors ($60 for TRU members).

Broadway producers David Garfinkle (founding producer of Spider-man: Turn off the Dark, Ghost the musical), Ken Waissman (original producer of Grease, Torch Song Trilogy, Agnes of God) and TRU executive director Bob Ost will teach this lab that is designed toexplore and improve upon the communication skills of writers and directors.

"In the real theater world, it is generally the producer who mediates the disputes between writers and directors," explains Ost, "so we thought it made sense to have producers function as the facilitators of this lab. It's uncanny how well this works - more than half the teams we have put together in the last three years are still working together."

Selected playwrights will email TRU a synopsis, pitch and production history, plus 3-5 sample pages of a script; the directors will select a project that interests them from those submitted, request and read the script and prepare for a preliminary director-writer discussion about the play. Is the writer open to feedback? Does the director intimidate or inspire? More information on the day is available at www.truonline.org/DirectorLabJune13.htm
