Star of Stage & Screen, Jon Polito Dies at 65

TMZ reports that Jon Polito, perhaps best known for his roles in the Coen Brothers' "The Big Lebowski" and "Miller's Crossing," passed away yesterday, September 1st at the age of 65. The site reports that the actor was diagnosed with melanoma in 2008 and was also suffering with an infection related to a recent surgery. According to family sources, he had been in a coma since last Sunday.

The actor appeared on Broadway in the 1984 revival of DEATH OF A SALESMAN. Other Broadway credits include 1983's TOTAL ABANDON, 1982's THE CURSE OF AN ACHING HEART and 1977's AMERICAN BUFFALO. He also starred in the 1989 off-Broadway production of OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY at the Minetta Lane Theatre.

Polito appeared in over 100 movies and dozens of TV shows, including Homicide: Life on the Street, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Bunheads, and Modern Family.
