A service sung in memory of those who perished on 9/11 will be offered on Saturday, September 11 at 11 am in the church. Members of St. Bartholomew's Choir will sing works of Palestrina, Tavener and the Kontakion, a Kievan chant setting of the Final Commendation, included as part of the Burial Rite in the Book of Common Prayer. This service is part of a series of events surrounding 9/11 entitled "A Weekend of Hope and Remembrance."

This annual service originated several years ago as a memorial for the ten members of Engine 8 Ladder 2, Battalion 8 of the New York Fire Department station house on East 51st St. These brave souls were first responders to the catastrophe at the World Trade Center. Over the years, the service has grown to include the families, friends and colleagues of many other battalions as well as those who simply want to remember and pray. More about the service here.

The service has been made possible in part by the generosity of Grand Central Partnership.
