In the Met's new production of Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment, Marian Seldes will play the role of the Duchess of Krakenthorp, replacing Zoe Caldwell, who is ill. Seldes will play the role of the redoubtable Duchess for the entire run of performances from April 21 to May 16.

A Tony-Award winning actress, Seldes has appeared in numerous movies and on television and has long been a star of the stage, both on Broadway and off. She made her stage debut in 1947, and has since appeared in such memorable works as The Chalk Garden, A Delicate Balance, Equus, Death Trap, and Dinner at Eight. She is particularly associated with the works of Edward Albee and Terrence McNally, and her most recent Broadway credit was in McNally's Deuce.
