In a new twist on the classic epic myth, Seattle playwright Jennifer Dice reweaves the ancient tale of Ithakan war hero Odysseus on his trek home to his wife Penelope following the legendary battle of the Trojan War. Four [free] performances February 22, 23, and 24 at the historic Bathhouse Theater on Green Lake. Donations are encouraged, and go to support SPT's Youth Scholarship Fund.

It's an epic journey that takes Odysseus and his crew over 30 years to complete. Along the way he is beset by a boatload of troubles - a giant bloodthirsty Cyclops, a ravenous seven-headed Hydra, a legion of beautiful but deadly Sirens, and the evil sorceress Circe. In this new
version of the classic story, Seattle Playwright Jennifer Dice has crafted a thoughtful but light-hearted comedy that takes a critical look at bullying leaders while exploring the merits of perseverance, teamwork and cooperation. Originally commissioned by the innovative Greenwood Elementary Drama Program, THE ODYSSEY OF HOMER, or ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER is certain to be another breakthrough of theatrical exploration for SPT's Youth Program.

"Jennifer's script is so fun and playful, yet it doesn't gloss over or ignore the bigger themes and issues," says Director Emily Purington. "It doesn't patronize, and it knows exactly what it wants to be. It's just as epic and mythological as the source material, but with Jennifer's unique style and voice."

"Emily and Jennifer are a perfect match," says SPT Artistic and Education Director Shana Bestock. "Collectively, they raise the bar for intelligent, creative, and fun youth theater. Their work gives kids the opportunity to explore the world, expand their horizons, and excel as an ensemble while challenging everyone's expectations of what kids are capable of."

Come see why Seattle Public Theater's Youth Program is so often praised for its ability to transcend traditional expectations of "Children's Theater" with exciting theatrical experiences for the whole community.
