SON OF SAUL Wins Oscar for Foreign Language Film

Hungary's SON OF SAUL has won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. The film was directed by László Nemes. This is the ninth Academy Award nomination for Hungary. Previous nominations were:

About the film: In October 1944, Saul Ausländer is a Hungarian member of the Sonderkommando, a group of Jewish prisoners forced to lead other inmates in Auschwitz-Birkenau to their deaths and dispose of their bodies in the crematoriums. One day, Saul finds a young boy and, taking him for his son, tries to arrange for a proper Jewish funeral for him.

The 88th ACADEMY AWARDS are taking place tonight, Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and are being televised live by the ABCTelevision Network. The Oscar presentation is also being televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide. Comedian, actor and filmmaker Chris Rock returns as host of the event for a second time.
