Celebrate the holiday season New Orleans' style when Preservation Hall Jazz Band performs its Creole Christmas program Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at 8 p.m. in Jones Hall, presented by Society for the Performing Arts.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band will swing into Houston, showcasing holiday classics with a New Orleans twist. The band members will have audience members dancing in their seats with unique harmonies and syncopated rhythms and a song list that includes "Swinging in a Winter Wonderland," I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "Bells Will Be Ringin'" and selections from the band's most requested, timeless crowd-pleasers.

The recipient of the Medal of Arts, Preservation Hall Jazz Band has toured for more than five decades, taking the unique sound of New Orleans to audiences worldwide. Under Creative Director Ben Jaffe, Preservation Hall Jazz Band is forging new ground by introducing its special blend of jazz to new audiences while honoring its storied history. The band has grace stages from Carnegie Hall to performances in the White House to a jam session with the King of Thailand.

Founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe to promote traditional New Orleans jazz in all its authenticity, Preservation Hall is a living, breathing institution where traditions and culture are cause for celebration. Under Ben Jaffe's direction, the group has performed and recorded with such musicians as My Morning Jacket, Tom Waits, Merle Haggard, Pete Seeger and more.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band's most recent album, That's It, was released in July 2013.

Founded in 1966, Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) is the largest independent non-profit presenting organization in the Southwest. Since its inception, SPA has sponsored more than 1,000 performances of the world's finest music, dance and theater events, in adherence to the belief that the arts are fundamental to the overall enrichment and quality of life within the community.
