Tony Award-winner Amanda Plummer will once again star as Summer and Smoke's Alma Winemiller early next year, according to Variety.

Although a transfer of the hit Hartford Stage production of the Tennessee Williams classic was previously announced, Plummer was, at the time, unable to commit to the upcoming Paper Mill Playhouse run.  However, her next acting engagement has been postponed.

Summer and Smoke will run from January 10th, 2007 through February 11th at the Milburn, NJ theatre.  Marc Kudisch, who starred as Dr. John Buchanan opposite Plummer at Hartford Stage, will be succeeded by Kevin Anderson (Sunset Boulevard, Orpheus Descending) at Paper Mill.

"Director Michael Wilson (Enchanted April) presents a traditional retelling of this poignant play in this Paper Mill premiere. A lonely minister's daughter, Alma Winemiller, is a spinster living in a rural Mississippi town. She finds her only solace in a secret lifelong love for the boy-next-door, now grown into the handsome ladies' man Dr. John Buchanan. Eventually, Alma is tortured by her unrequited passion and begins to make desperate attempts to get his attention. But her repressed nature clashes with John's wanton ways, leading to a climactic battle of wills that changes them both forever. Riveting and intense, this sultry production transports you to the oppressive and sweltering summer of Mississippi to experience the unrelenting power of desire," state Paper Mill notes.

Plummer won a Tony Award for her performance in Agnes of God, and has also been seen on Broadway in You Never Can Tell, The Glass Menagerie, and A Taste of Honey.  Her previous Hartford Stage appearances include Eight by Tenn, A Member of the Wedding and The Wake of Jamey Foster.  She is a three-time Emmy Award-winner for her work in "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit," "The Outer Limits" and "Miss Rose White," while film credits include 8 1/2 Women, Pulp Fiction, and The Fisher King.
