"The Pop Show," an exciting new series that has found a home at Birdland, made a smashing debut on Monday night! Producer John Capo rounded up an inspiring cast to celebrate the songs of Elton John - including Tony winner Tonya Pinkins, who razzle-dazzled the crowd with "Bennie And The Jets" and "Your Song." After great performances by Jason Wooton ("The Bitch is Back"), Van Hughes ("Honky Cat"), Russell Fischer ("Crocodile Rock"), Jarrod Spector ("Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"), Daniel Quadrino ("Tiny Dancer"), Christopher Jackson ("Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters"), Leslie McDonel ("I've Seen That Movie Too"), Natalie Douglas ("Someone Saved My Life Tonight"), and Kyle Dean Massey ("I'm Still Standing"), the eminent Len Cariou took to the stage, shouting out a defiant "Circle Of Life," breathing new life into those wonderful lyrics. The grand finale was a thrilling "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting," performed by the full cast. The Pop Show Band was led by Brandon Sturiale on piano, Adam Wolfe on drums, Cody Owen Stine on keys, Mike Rosengarten on guitar and Eric Day on bass. Singing backup were Melanie Brook, Melanie Burg and Clint Carter. The same crew, along with a new bunch of singers will be back on June 10th with a tribute to the extraordinary songs of Adele!
