Patti LuPone to be Honored at the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation's Gala

Patti LuPone will receive the Ellis Island Family Heritage Award at The Statue of Liberty - Ellis Island Foundation's "Gala in the Great Hall" on Tuesday, May 19th at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration.

LuPone, whose grandparents passed through Ellis Island when they came to America, is an actress, singer, and New York Times bestselling author. She is the recipient of two Tony Awards for her performances in Gypsy and Evita. She most recently starred in the Los Angeles Opera's critically acclaimed production of John Corigliano's The Ghosts of Versailles and will soon be seen in the second season of the Showtime series "Penny Dreadful." Her most recent NY stage credits include her debut with the NY City Ballet as Anna 1 in The Seven Deadly Sins, as Joanne in the NY Philharmonic's production of Company and on Broadway in David Mamet's The Anarchist and the musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. She will next be seen in Lincoln Center Theater's production of Douglas Carter Beane's new play Shows for Days, directed by Jerry Zaks, this June.

Also being honored at this year's "Gala in the Great Hall" are designer and philanthropist Diane von Furstenberg and Harvard professor, filmmaker, and author Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Meredith Vieira will serve as host for the evening.

Cocktails and the inaugural preview of the Peopling of America Center, a major expansion of the museum covering the pre and post-Ellis years, begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and an awards presentation.
