As part of its upcoming season New York City Opera will launch an all-new concert series showcasing the non-operatic works of composers whose operas will be presented on its main stage. With the 2010-2011 season boasting operas by Leonard Bernstein, one of America's most influential composers, the organization will honor Bernstein with Lucky to Be Me: The Music of Leonard Bernstein in Concert featuring Broadway's best.

In celebration of the New York premiere on Wednesday, October 27 of the opera A Quiet Place by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Wadsworth, Lucky to Be Me: The Music of Leonard Bernstein - on Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7, 2010 - will salute the diversity of Bernstein's work and feature classical works from his Kaddish Symphony, Mass, Songfest, and musical theater selections from Candide, Wonderful Town, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, On the Town, West Side Story, and more. The program will include performances by Broadway favorites Victoria Clark, Christine Ebersole, Donna Murphy, Kelli O'Hara, Michael Cerveris, Darius de Haas, and Michael Urie along with cast members from A Quiet Place, the New York City Opera Orchestra, Chorus, and Children's Chorus conducted by City Opera music director George Manahan.

City Opera's new concert series takes advantage of the possibilities offered by the recent renovation of the company's home, the David H. Koch Theater. The series also allows New York City Opera to expand its repertoire and programming and cast new light on the 2010/2011 season productions. Other concerts in the season include the gala concert An Evening with Christine Brewer on Thursday, October 28, 2010 and The Musical Worlds of John Zorn on Wednesday, March 30, 2011.

Separate to the concert series, City Opera will also present Late Night with LB, on Saturday, October 23, 2010, a rare recital of Bernstein's most personal music in a cabaret setting.
