Next “Stage” Set For New Hampshire Magician BJ Hickman

New Hampshire magician BJ Hickman's experience in advertising has resulted in being kept busy in his avocation/hobby performing magic shows. His recent retirement from Advertising Manager for The Journal of The International Brotherhood of Magicians, and Account Representative in local radio broadcasting is opening doors booking more magic shows. It appears that a seasoned, experienced entertainer has more command (and control) of his audience.

Hickman claims, "keeping them spellbound when you want to, and having them rolling on the floor laughing and applauding a few minutes later is a knack acquired over time. "It's like a roller-coaster for them without leaving the room." The proof is in the bookings. He's never been busier.

Hickman worked in radio beginning during his college years and over a 40 year period for Good Neighbor Radio, Granite State Broadcasting, Garrison City Broadcasting, and Binnie Media, all companies that, over time, owned WTSN and The Bay (WBYY) in Dover. While working in advertising (and some "on-air" work), Hickman's sideline of doing magic shows remained busy enough to make the transition to full-time magician.

"I'm grateful that my career choices resulted in an opportunity to use all that I've learned to book more shows resulting in more happy audiences," according to Hickman, a long-time Dover resident, and Manchester native. "It's very gratifying. I can empathize with other entertainers, teachers, speakers, coaches, and others who work with people and get immediate positive feedback. It's inspirational."

Magician BJ Hickman entertains family audiences primarily throughout New England and occasionally elsewhere. Hickman is a regular performer at Hollywood's Magic Castle and several other venues in the Los Angeles area.

His performance scheduled for this summer for The Cochecho Arts Festival will mark Hickman's 45th year performing at events for the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce. Other upcoming Hickman magic show performances include The Palace Theatre in Manchester, Stratham Fair, Deerfield Fair, Hooksett Old Home Day, Nashua Parks and Recreation, and many schools, child care centers, special events, and parties. He's returning to his alma mater, Keene State College, this summer for a week-long series of beginner magic classes for their Kids on Campus summer program.
