If you share the passion for Hindustani Music (Vocal), here is your chance to apply for a scholarship with India's premiere arts institute - National Centre for the Performing Arts. NCPA invites students in the age group of 18 to 28 years for a scholarship in advance training in Hindustani Music (Vocal) for students.

The selected candidates will appear for an audition at the NCPA, Mumbai, at their own expense in the month of September. The value of the scholarship is Rs.5,000/- per month for one year (2014-2015). The scholarship is being given in the form of monetary support for the student to train under their own teachers or institutes.

Last year's scholarship winners are sitarists Kalyani Roy and Shamim Ahmed Khan and Thanjavur Sankara Iyer, a vocalist from Tirunalveli.

In addition to the above, the NCPA also provides financial support to three indigent senior musicians every year through their Guru Support Scheme. The NCPA also supports the traditional Guru-Shishaya tradition of imparting musical education. They have to their credit a scheme in which gurus receive financial support to train worthy disciples. Similarly, talented disciples are given scholarships to support their training.

Applications are invited in an envelope marked 'NCPA - CITI Scholarship for Indian Music' to the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Nariman Point, Mumbai 400 021 or mailed to indianmusic@ncpamumbai.com on or before July 5, 2014. The application must contain details of training, background and other relevant particulars.

Opening its doors to the world in 1969, the NCPA became the first multi-venue and multi-purpose cultural centre to be built in South Asia. Vibrant and diverse, the NCPA today is recognized by artistes, patrons and media alike as India's premier performing arts institution. The Centre provides a fine showcase for India's rich performing arts traditions, all thanks to the institution's training and research initiatives.

The NCPA presents over 600 events each year across all major art forms, most notably Indian Music, International Music, Theatre and Film, Dance, Literature, Visual Arts and Photography. There are Heads of Programming for each of these art forms who curate innovative events and festivals; representative of everything from classical to contemporary throughout the year. The NCPA produces its own programmes as well as collaborates with leading cultural promoters from around the world.
