Murney, Pawk, Testa, Etc. to Teach Spring Master Classes

Transport Group Artistic Director Jack Cummings III has announced that the company will offer a series of master classes taught by acclaimed Broadway divas.

Beginning on April 23 and running through May 28, 2007, the Diva Master Classes will meet for three hours once per week every Monday at 6pm.  The intimate class of ten pupils will learn from a different Broadway diva each week, covering various musical topics: song interpretation, ballads, up-tempos, audition material, and comic songs, among many others.

All classes will take place at 520 Eighth Avenue, between 36th and 37th streets. Actresses scheduled to teach in the course are: Dee Hotythree-time Tony Award nominee for The Will Rogers Follies, The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public, and Footloose; Julia Murney – Drama Desk Award nominee for Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party and currently appearing on Broadway as Elphaba in Wicked; Michele Pawk – Tony Award winner for Hollywood Arms, Drama Desk Award nominee for Crazy for You, Cabaret, and The Paris Letter; Mary Beth Peil – Tony Award nominee for The King and I with Yul Brynner; Mary Testa – Tony Award nominee for 42nd Street, On The Town, Drama Desk Award nominee for First Lady Suite, String of Pearls, and See What I Wanna See; and Barbara Walsh – Tony and Drama Desk Award nominee for Falsettos and currently appearing on Broadway as Joanne in Company.


Founded in 2001, Transport Group is a not-for-profit theatre company that develops and produces work by American playwrights and composers with the aim of exploring the American conscience in the 20 th and 21st centuries.
