Emmy-winning actress and singer Megan Mullally sits down with LA Stage to discuss her role in Odyssey Theatre's production of Adam Bock's The Receptionist, her appearance in the upcoming FAME remake, as well as future projects and ambitions.

In the insightful interview, Mullally muses about her past and future, even teasing about a new project she's developing; KAREN: THE MUSICAL.

"The idea is that Karen decides she is going to do a Broadway musical for a variety of hilarious reasons. It's a couple years out. My very good friend Jeff Blumenkrantz is doing music and lyrics. We've been collaborating on this for a few years and have everyone's permission to do it, if you know what I mean. We're just now starting to go out to book writers and directors. I just think it's a funny idea," shares Mullally.

"I think the idea of her singing is funny!" she adds. "But I also love doing the wrong thing some time. The thing you're not supposed to do. Everyone always wants to distance themselves from their past sitcom characters. But I think it's funny just to keep doing it!"

Megan Mullally will lead the Odyssey Theatre's production of Adam Bock's The Receptionist from August 5th through September 20th. The Receptionist will be directed by Bart DeLorenzo.

The production will also star Jennifer Finnigan, Jeff Perry, and Chris L. McKenna.

Mullally played the character of Karen Walker on NBC's "Will & Grace" for 8 seasons, receiving 2 Emmy Awards and 4 Screen Actors Guild Awards. She recently hosted a syndicated daytime talk show for NBC/Universal, "The Megan Mullally Show," and has appeared on Broadway in the Mel Brooks' musical Young Frankenstein and the revivals of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying and Grease.

As a vocalist, her credits include performances at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The Seattle Symphony (with her band Supreme Music Program), and Los Angeles' Disney Concert Hall (soloist). She and her band, Supreme Music Program, recently released their third CD, Free Again!.

"At the start of a typical day in the Northeast Office, Beverly deals effortlessly with ringing phones and her colleague's romantic troubles. But the appearance of a charming rep from the Central Office disrupts the friendly routine. And as the true nature of The company's business becomes apparent, The Receptionist raises disquieting, provocative questions about the consequences of complicity with evil," explain press notes.August 14-September 20

The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble's mission remains firm: the creation of new work, the revitalization and re-exploration of classical material, consistent experimentation with the most current developments at the forefront of the "state of the art" in the interNational Theatre world, ongoing investigation of the "process" of creating theatre, and continuing development of new acting, directing, and writing talent via the Actor's Laboratory, Play Development Program, and Emerging Directors Plan. Ultimately, the institution moves toward the creation of a larger International Experimental Theatre Center, facilitating the crosspolination of artists from different countries, cultures and disciplines, and the exposure of this collaborative work to the Southern California audience.
