MEG FLATHER Continues Runs of Two Critically Acclaimed Shows--CARLY & ME (9/27, 11/7) and PORTRAITS (12/11) at Don't Tell Mama

Cabaret Performer Meg Flather certainly didn't rest on her laurels after capturing two MAC Awards over the last three years (the "Hanson" Award in 2014 and the Award for "Best Original Song" in 2016). If some cabaret website or magazine comes up with an award next year for "the hardest working cabaret star" over the past year, Flather will definitely be one of the candidates. Since early March, the charming singer/songwriter has been performing runs of two different shows at Don't Tell Mama, the famed cabaret hotspot on Restaurant Row in Manhattan.

After performing her critically acclaimed show PORTRAITS (which premiered last December in the Stephen Hanks produced Metropolitan Room series NEW YORK CABARET'S GREATEST HITS), Flather launched a run at Don't Tell Mama, quickly followed by the debut of a new show CARLY & ME, featuring the songs of Carly Simon and a few of Flather's own original tunes that were inspired by the iconic singer/songwriter. Both shows feature Paul Greenwood on piano and John Mettam on guitar and drums, with multiple award-winning Lennie Watts as director.

Flather has recently announced that she will be performing both shows again at Don't Tell Mama, bringing back Carly & Me on September 27 at 7 pm, and on November 7 at 7 pm, and reprising Portraits for a fourth show on December 11 at 7 pm. "Carly," of course, is Carly Simon, who amassed 24 Billboard Hot 100 charting singles, won two Grammy Awards, became the first artist in history to win a Grammy, Golden Globe, and Academy Award for a song composed as well as performed by a single artist (for the 1988 hit "Let the River Run" from the film Working Girl), and is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Flather's show will explore the legendary singer/songwriter's hits (as well as Simon's "misses") and how Simon influenced Flather's songwriting. "This show will be my personal thank you from one songwriter to another," says Flather, who will also perform some of her own original songs in the show. After Flather performed a trial run of the show at Don't Tell Mama last year, BistroAwards.com reviewer Gerry Geddes wrote: "Flather's wit, charm and singing are better than ever . . . Her choices for Carly Simon material are often pleasantly unexpected."

Flather's Portraits received rave reviews when she brought her show back to the Metropolitan Room last December after not having performed it since 1993. She mesmerized the audience with what has been hailed as perhaps her best performance ever, totally justifying its designation as a cabaret "greatest hit."

In TheaterScene.net, reviewer John Hoglund wrote: "Flather brought back Portraits [after 23 years] and carried it off with aplomb and a knife-edged professionalism that is missing in many cabaret acts today . . . Flather is dynamic; a terrific mix of intelligence and high energy wackiness who can also break your heart with a gut-wrenching ballad . . . An engaging and totally fun hour."

For Cabaret Scenes.org, Victoria Ordin said: "Flather brings the depth and presence of a stage actress to her interpretations of songs . . . Flather gave a performance I will not soon forget."
