MATILDA THE MUSICAL made its West End debut last November in a brand new musical version by Dennis Kelly and award-winning musician and comedian Tim Minchin, whose website announced today that the show will be included in the 2013 Guinness Book of World Records for the most Olivier Award wins.

MATILDA garnered seven awards from ten nominations at the Oliviers: Best Actress in a Musical for Cleo Demetriou, Kerry Ingram, Sophia Kiely and Eleanor Worthington Cox, jointly, in the title role; Best Actor in a Musical for Bertie Carvel as Miss Trunchbull; Best New Musical; Best Director for Matthew Warchus; Best Theatre Choreographer for Peter Darling; Best Set Design for Rob Howell; and Best Sound Design for Simon Baker.

1980's NICHOLAS NICKLEBY was the previous record holder with six wins from seven nominations.

The production is directed by Matthew Warchus and designed by Rob Howell with choreography by Peter Darling, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, musical supervision and orchestration by Christopher Nightingale, sound by Simon Baker and special effects and illusions are by Paul Kieve.

Based on the beloved story by Roald Dahl, MATILDA will make its Broadway debut in April 2013.
