The UK's Daily Mail reports exclusively that Kathy Griffin is set to take over as the newest member of E!'s FASHION POLICE, replacing legendary comedian Joan Rivers who passed away earlier this month. The series is scheduled to return with all-new episodes in January of 2015.

According to the report, Melissa Rivers, who serves as producer and director of the show, has given her approval on the casting decision.

Insiders tell the site, 'Kathy has been told if she wants the gig she can have it because Melissa wanted someone who her mother would have approved of. Kathy will probably take the position but they are still working out the deal.' A family member added, 'Kathy adored and admired Joan. Not only did Joan mentor Kathy they were really close friends. Kathy is heartbroken that she is gone."

In a statement following the passing of Rivers, E! said, 'We are deeply saddened by the loss of Joan Rivers and, for the last two weeks, have turned our attention to honoring her memory on all of our platforms. We have also thought long and hard about what Joan would have wanted as it pertains to the future of Fashion Police." It continued, 'Fashion Police will return in 2015 commencing with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, January 12. No further details will be announced at this time.'

Last week, FASHION POLICE co-host Giuliana Rancic told ABC, "A part of me is like Joan would want Melissa and us and the team to go on and I know she would, but it's just a matter of can there be a show without Joan?'
'Do we want to do a FASHION POLICE without Joan? I don't know."

Griffin began her career in the early 1980's at the Improv Comedy Troupe at The Groundlings in Los Angeles. She rose to fame with her hit Bravo reality show 'Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-list' which aired from 2005-2010. The comic went on to win two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Program and has released six comedy albums that were all nominated for Grammy Awards.
