Jen Silverman's THE MOORS to Continue Irish Rep's Reading Series, 7/28

The Irish Repertory Theatre, which "encourages the development of works focusing on the Irish and Irish American experience, as well as a range of other cultures," continues the eighth season of its Reading Series with Jen Silverman's play The Moors, directed by Jackson Gay. The reading will take place on Monday, July 28 at 3pm on the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage of the Irish Repertory Theatre (132 W. 22nd Street). The reading is FREE and open to the public. In The Moors, a dark comedy about love, desperation, and visibility, two sisters and a dog live out their lives on the bleak English moors, and dream of love and power. The arrival of a hapless governess and a moor-hen set all three on a strange and dangerous path.

The Moors will be read by Bianca Amato (Private Lives, King Lear at TFANA), Hannah Caball (Grounded, A Man For All Seasons), Billy Carter (All That Fall, The Weir), Susannah Flood (Love and Information, Mr. Burns, a post-electric play), Mahira Kakkar (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, When January Feels Like Summer) and Jeanine Serralles (The Muscles In Our Toes, The Jammer).

Jen Silverman (Playwright) was raised in Asia, Europe, and Scandinavia and the US. Her work has been produced off-Broadway by the Playwrights Realm (Crane Story), off-off Broadway by Clubbed Thumb (Phoebe in Winter), regionally at Cleveland Public Theatre (AkaruiI), and commissioned and produced by the Gallatin School/NYU (Bones at the Gate) and Playwrights Horizons Theatre School / NYU. She is an affiliated artist with New Georges, Ars Nova, The Playwrights Realm, The Lark, and Youngblood/EST. She is a two-time MacDowell Fellow and has developed work with Playwrights Horizons, InterAct Theatre, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, NY Stage & Film/Powerhouse, Williamstown, Playpenn, the O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, Seven Devils, NYTW, The New Harmony Project, and received a Workspace residency at LMCC. Her play The Hunters was selected for?the 2014 Cherry Lane Mentor Project (mentor Lynn Nottage). Her play Still won the 2013 Yale Drama Series Award, and received a reading at Lincoln Center. She is the recipient of the Kennedy Center's Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, an NYFA grant, and a Leah Ryan / Lilly Award for her play The Moors. BA: Brown. MFA: Iowa Playwrights Workshop.
