Jeffrey Harmon Smith, an escapee from the legal profession, brings his inimitable style to songs from the theatre and pop music scenes. JEFFREY HARMON SMITH! 'AUDITION SONGS' is set for The Duplex Cabaret Theater, located at 61 Christopher Street (at the corner of 7th Avenue) on Thursday August 6th, 7:00PM.

Jeffrey proves without a doubt there is life after the law: he retired after 30 years as an entertainment lawyer, working mainly for CBS and Lifetime Television, where he served as Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs. Always a performer at heart Jeffreyhas appeared over the years on television and in various roles in short and independent films. He also has performed in New York City productions and in regional theater including The Man of LaMancha, Cabaret, The Winter's Tale and Two Gentlemen of Verona. As a playwright, his series of one act plays, DATE-O-RAMA, has been produced off, off Broadway by Around the Block.

In 'Audition Songs' Jeffrey shares his stories and sense of humor about the business of auditioning and his love for popular music, while sharing with us his love for the stage. Some of the tunes that will be incorporated into the show are classic and new standards including 'So Many Stars', 'Where or When', 'Come in From the Rain', 'Fascinating Rhythm' and Cole Porter's 'It's Alright With Me'.

Jeffrey has studied acting at Stella Adler Studio and Atlantic Acting School. He is the recipient of the Perrin H. Lowrey Prize for creative writing, and was a finalist for the Raymond J. Flores Short Play Festival.

'Audition Songs' is directed by Melissa Maxwell who specializes in new play development. Credits include Trouble in Mind (Ohio State University), Keith Josef Adkin's latest play, Safe House (The Repertory Theatre of Saint Louis); She is the Director for the American Slavery Project's Unheard Voices.

The show's Musical Director is Javier Arau the founder and executive director of New York Jazz Academy. Arau has been featured in The New York Times, Down Beat Magazine and Saxophone Journal. His compositions have received awards from ASCAP, BMI, DownBeat Magazine, and IAJE. He has served as composer, arranger, musical director and pianist for numerous musicals and revues in NYC and the tri-state area.
