Variety reports that Helen Mirren is currently in discussions to join the cast of Disney's upcoming THE NUTCRACKER reboot. The actress will join previously announced cast members Keira Knightley, Misty Copeland, Morgan Freeman and young Mackenzie Foy, who will portray Clara.

Based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's 1816 story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King", Disney's live-action retelling of the classic story will be titled "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms." In the film, "one of Clara's Christmas toys - a Nutcracker doll - comes to life and battles the evil Mouse King with seven heads."

Lasse Hallström will helm the project from a script by Ashleigh Powell. Mark Gordon is producing, with Lindy Goldstein is executive producing.

Mirren, who appeared most recently on the big screen in "Trumbo," will soon be seen opposite Will Smith in New Line's drama "Collateral Beauty." She also will have a cameo in the 8th installment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise.
