The hilarious musical spoof Gutenberg! The Musical! is coming to Seattle. Local theatre favorites Kate Jaeger and Matt Giles star as two aspiring playwrights performing a staged reading of their new passion project for potential producers: a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. Gutenberg! The Musical! will run May 12-22, 2017 at The Jewelbox Theater at The Rendezvous (2322 2nd Ave). Tickets can be purchased at Brown Paper Tickets (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2930545.)

In this side-splitting comedy, writers Bud Davenport (Matt Giles) and Doug Simon (Kate Jaeger) sing all the songs and play all of the parts in their crass historical epic, all with an unending supply of enthusiasm. The New York Times called the show, "a smashing success," while the New York Post enthused, "There are lots of genuine laughs in Gutenberg!" The show was nominated for a 2007 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical, as well as a 2007 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical. The production will be directed and produced by Pauls Macs, with musical direction by Julia Thornton. Hattie Claire Andres provides additional staging and choreography. Gutenberg! The Musical! is written by Anthony King and Scott Brown.

The production is a passion project for the creative team. "We couldn't be more excited to present this show to Seattle audiences. Kate Jaeger and Matt Giles are two of my favorite performers in town, and if the rehearsal process is any indication, this show is going to be the comedy event of the season," said director Pauls Macs.
