Chris Thile Returns to Zankel Hall Today

Today, Monday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. in Zankel Hall, the Carnegie Hall Notables-a membership and ticket program for music enthusiasts in their 20s and 30s-hosts Chris Thile and Friends, a special Notables-only performance featuring mandolin virtuoso, composer, and vocalist Chris Thile alongside frequent collaborators Michael Daves and Edgar Meyer and additional artists to be announced.

Following the exclusive event, the Notables will gather at the Empire Hotel Rooftop for an after-party beginning at 8:30 p.m. with cocktails generously provided by Hendrick's Gin, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey, and The Balvenie, and beer generously provided by Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales.

Chris Thile and Friends is hosted by Carnegie Hall's Notables, whose support benefits the music education and community programs created by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute. For the December 16 performance and after-party, Notables members at the Supporter level (annual contribution of $500) and higher receive complimentary admission for two. Admission for non-members is $100 each with the price of each ticket applied toward a Notables membership and $75 for Notables Prelude members. Chris Thile is the founding member and lead vocalist of Punch Brothers. With broad influences including progressive bluegrass, classical, rock, and jazz, Thile-a recently named MacArthur Fellow-transcends the borders of conventionally circumscribed genres, creating a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic. Thile spent the summer touring with Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, and Edgar Meyer, with whom he released last year's The Goat Rodeo Sessions, which won two Grammy Awards, before embarking on his first solo tour this fall in support of his acclaimed Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 1. The Bach recording was his sixth solo album.

In 2011, Nonesuch released the Grammy-nominated Sleep with One Eye Open, an album of duets with guitarist Michael Daves and the following year saw Punch Brothers' critically acclaimed third album, Who's Feeling Young Now?. Thile has also collaborated with a pantheon of musical innovators from multiple genres, including Béla Fleck, Brad Mehldau, and Hilary Hahn. For more than 15 years, Thile played in the wildly popular band Nickel Creek, with which he released three albums, sold two million records, and received a Grammy Award.

The Carnegie Hall Notables, a membership and ticket program for music enthusiasts in their 20s and 30s, is an exciting and energetic community of young people committed to advancing music education and the arts. Through original events, private performances with world-famous composers and musicians, discounted ticket prices to concerts, and music events throughout New York City, Notables members are invited to celebrate and intimately experience the exceptional power of music.
