The show is written by Bryan Fuller, with the pilot directed by Bryan Singer. Jackson joins Charity Wakefield (the "normal" cousin), Jerry O'Connell (Herman Munster), Portia de Rossi (Lily Munster), Mason Cook (Eddie) and Eddie Izzard (Grandpa).

The show is based on the 1960s TV show "The Munsters", which revolved around the strange Munster family—"monsters," as their surname describes—and their attempts to fit into normal society.

Jackson is set to play Scout Master Steve, the Munsters' son Eddie's boy scout leader, who develops a crush on his mother Lily.

Jackson is known for his recurring role on NBC's 30 Rock. He has also appeared in the film Lola Versus and just signed up to play Jerry O'Rourke in Steven Soderbergh's Behind the Candelabra biopic about Liberace for HBO.

Jackson recently took the Broadway stage as part of Dustin Lance Black's 8 (2011), and in a starring role in The Heart of the Matter at MCC Theater in 2012. He also played in Broadway's Finian's Rainbow (2009), as well as Xanadu (2007), The 24 Hour Plays 2005 Benefit, the "On the Twentieth Century" Actors' Fund Concert (2005) All Shook Up (2005), Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002) and Aida (2000). He starred in Off-Broadway's Damn Yankees (2008), The Agony and the Agony (2006), and New York productions of Ace (2005) and Little Mary Sunshine (2003) and Altar Boyz (2004). He also appeared in the Los Angeles Reprise! concert It's a Bird…It's a Plane…It's Superman (2007).
