Boise Contemporary Theater Presents TRACY MORRISON ALBUM RELEASE CONCERT, 9/20

Boise Contemporary Theater is proud to present "Tracy Morrison: A Celebration of Idaho Women in Song," in concert at 8pm Saturday, September 20th. Mentored by the legendary Pinto Bennett, local singer/songwriter Tracy Morrison headlines an evening that also includes local songstresses Grandma Kelsey and Belinda Bowler. This evening will be a release party for Morrison's album that weaves together family, root music and Idaho history. We are also thrilled to have Grandma Kelsey whose disarming voice blends poetic narratives and structured melodies that draws the hearts of her listeners and Belinda Bowler who sings in a contemporary folk tradition.

Tracy Morrison

Tracy Morrison is an American folk singer, songwriter and musician. Her repertoire includes original songs, traditional folk songs and early swing tunes. In 2012 she released a self-titled EP produced by Idaho Songwriter Pinto Bennett. She is featured on the Boise 150 CD "Our Town" with the Cajun flavored single "Boise Girl" written by Pinto Bennett. Her new release, Dancing Through Medbury, is a collection of original folk songs that capture Tracy's rural Idaho roots, her love of family and longing for a sense of home. Tracy has shared the stage with Mexican Folk Singer, Tish Hinojosa, bluegrass sensation, Reilly Coyote, Singer Songwriter, Thomas Paul, honky tonk legends, The Famous Motel Cowboys and many more.

Grandma Kelsey

Grandma Kelsey is the anonym of Boise based singer/songwriter Kelsey Swope. A solitary, wingless creature armed with autoharp, guitar, and song, Grandma Kelsey's disarming voice blends poetic narratives and structured melodies that draws the hearts of her listeners. It is rare to feel alone in a room full of people, but one can not help feeling singled out by her sincerity. Grandma Kelsey recently moved into an old bingo hall with her latest co-conspirator Lionsweb as they create a psycho-adorable dream team and prepare to embark on an expansive US Tour in the Fall of 2013.

Belinda Bowler

Belinda grew up singing. Some of her earliest memories are of the songs her dad sang on family vacations. From the back of the Oldsmobile station wagon, she joined in on I've Been Working on the Railroad, The Blue Tail Fly, and Moonlight Bay where she discovered the wonder of singing in harmony. She loved the stories in the songs. She was in the third grade when her sister taught her three chords on a guitar their dad had brought home from a thrift store. A couple of years later she performed House of the Rising Sun for her fifth grade class, oblivious to the meaning of the song, but loving the attention of the surprised principal who stopped by for the show. Her performing career began in earnest when Peter Pengilly called her to ask if she would perform in a saloon his family was opening in Boise. For years she sang in clubs with the clinking of glasses and conversations of the inebriated as the background noise to her ballads. Now, she prefers more sedate audiences, welcoming the opportunity to share the music and the stories.
