-A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol The Musical is now being performed at The Growing Stage, The Children's Theatre of New Jersey through December 20th. Their full-scale production shines bright as a holiday treat for the entire family. The show is directed by the theatre's Executive Director Stephen L. Fredericks with musical direction by Melinda Bass O'Neill and choreography by Jillian Petrie. In addition to the fantastic staging, the multi-talented cast captures the Charles Dickens classic tale.

A Christmas Carol The Musical has music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and the book is by Mike Ockrent and Lynn Ahrens. The story tells of Ebenezer Scrooge as a wealthy old, curmudgeon who believes that his riches are more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. Three ghosts visit him on Christmas Eve and lead him through his past, present and future, often showing him the error of his ways. With their guidance, Scrooge realizes his shortcomings. He greets Christmas morning with a new spirit of generosity and joyfully connects with important people in his life.

A Christmas Story ensemble includes children, teens and adults many of whom are seasoned theatre professionals. The entire cast will impress you with well-delivered dialogue, wonderful vocals and delightful dancing. John Patrick Cleary masters the role of Scrooge who proves that people are wholly capable of change. Danny Campos as Mr. Fezziwig and Lori Lawrence as Mrs. Fezziwig are delightful and bring a real touch of fun to the show as they lead a joyful party scene. Cara Ganski is ideal as the Ghost of Christmas Past who gently leads Scrooge through scenes of his youth. Nikole Rizzo as Mrs. Cratchit brings the true sense of this loving family to the stage.

Wonderfully performed songs include moving pieces like "A Place Called Home" by Young Ebeneezer and Emily as well as exciting numbers like "Link by Link" by Jacob Marley and Ghosts and "Christmas Together" by the whole ensemble.

The creative team has done a great job bringing A Christmas Carol to the Netcong stage with scenery, lighting, sound and costuming design that bring the show to life. The Production Stage Manager for the show is Becky Nitka.
