The newly created Australian Theatre Company will launch on April 23 at an exclusive media reception hosted by Karen Lanyon, Australian Consul-General for Los Angeles.

"Our goal is to harness the huge breadth of Australian creative talent here in L.A.," said ATC co-founders and producers Nate Jones and Nick Hardcastle. "The company will focus on sharing Australian stories and culture and developing new works by Australian artists."

First up will be a production of Holding the Man, opening May 10 at the Matrix Theatre with an all-Australian cast.

.Adapted by Tommy Murphy from the best-selling memoir by Australian writer, actor and activist Timothy Conigrave about his 15-year relationship with former classmate and captain of the football team John Caleo, Holding the Man is one of Australia's most successful plays of all time. The original production smashed box office records for Griffin Theatre Company in 2006, then went on to complete four sold-out seasons in Sydney, transferring to the Sydney Opera House and Belvoir, before moving to the Brisbane Powerhouse, Melbourne Theatre Company and into London's West End. In 2013, La Boite Theatre Company brought the original production back to Brisbane for yet another run.

The ATC production will star Cameron Daddo, Nate Jones, Luke O'Sullivan, Adrienne Smith, Roxane Wilson and Adam J. Yeend. Veteran acting coach Larry Moss will direct.
