Albee Honored 5/8; Foote, Guare, Horowitz Discuss Clurman

Capping a weekend of performances, plays, concerts, poetry readings and symposia by world-class artist, The Inaugural Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts will culminate with a symposia on Clurman's affect on playwrights featuring four of America's greatest playwrights--Edward Albee, Horton Foote, John Guare and Israel Horowitz.  Moderating this discussion is George C. White, founder of The O'Neill Theater Center.   The symposium will take place at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting, 31 West 27th Street on Monday, May 8th at 7 P.M.

The presentation of The Harold Clurman Lifetime Achievement Award to Edward Albee will be made by long - time friend, award-winning actress Marian Seldes at a gala dinner following the discussion that evening.  The evening benefits the Stella Adler Studio of Acting Scholarships, the Adler Teen Outreach Program and the famed Studio's building fund.

Albee is a four-time Pulitzer Prize-winner whose plays include The Zoo Story, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, A Delicate Balance, Seascape, Three Tall Women, Teh Play About the Baby, and The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?  Pulitzer Prize-winner Foote Foote will receive a special Lifetime Achievement Award from the Drama Desk at their annual awards ceremony May 21.  His plays include The Young Man from Atlanta, The Carpetbagger's Children, The Widow Claire and The Day Emily Married.  He has also won Oscars for his screenplays of To Kill a Mockingbird and Tender Mercies.

Horovitz has won many awards, including OBIES, Emmys and Drama Desks.  His plays include The Indian Wants the Bronx, It's Called the Sugar Plum, Rats, Morning, Noon and Night, The Good Parts and more.  Guare is a Tony Award-winner whose plays include Six Degrees of Separation, Landscape of the Body, The House of Blue Leaves, Four Baboons Adoring the Sun and Bosoms and Neglect, as well as the books of the musicals Two Gentlemen of Verona and Sweet Smell of Success.  He received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay to Atlantic City.
