According to a new Equity announcement, a new musical adaptation of AUGUST RUSH is holding auditions for a developmental lab in New York City, which will be held November 13 through December 10, 2014.

John Doyle is set to direct, with choreographer Sam Pinkleton and music director Kimberly Grigsby also on the creative team.

Based on the Warner Bros. motion picture by Paul Castro and Nick Castle, AUGUST RUSH will feature music by Mark Mancina (who also wrote music for the film), lyrics by Glen Berger & Mark Mancina and book by Glen Berger.

The musical is auditioning for the roles of Evan Taylor/August Rush, Lyla Novacek, Thomas Novacek, Louis Connelly, Richard Jeffries, and Maxwell 'Wizard' Wallace.

AUGUST RUSH hit movie theaters in 2007, starring Freddie Highmore in the title role alongside Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Terrence Howard and Robin Williams. The film is a magical drama in which an orphaned musical prodigy uses his gift as a clue to finding his birth parents.

The film's song "Raise It Up," written by Impact Repertory Theatre and performed by Jamia Simone Nash, was nominated for Best Original Song at the 80th Academy Awards; ONCE ended up winning that year.
