3rd Annual ATG Youth Scholarship Awards Presented by Mayor Berry

Albuquerque Theatre Guild proudly announces the seven winners of its 2011-12 Youth Theatre Scholarships. This program helps children and youth learn about live theatre by providing scholarships for them to participate in extra-curricular theatre-education programs offered by Albuquerque Theatre Guild member organizations. Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry will present the awards to the seven recipients at a press conference on Tuesday, June 7 at 10: 30 a.m. in the Mayor's Conference Room, 11th floor, 1 Civic Plaza.

"This program is one of our favorites at the Albuquerque Theatre Guild. Young people are the future of acting and stage craft in Albuquerque, and we're delighted to provide the opportunity to for them to learn more about the art and craft of live theatre," says Hugh Witemeyer, President of the Albuquerque Theatre Guild. "We're pleased to be able to support them with our third year of scholarships."

Each scholarship is valued at $100 and must be used between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012. Current or prior enrollment in theatre-education programs is not required.

• Matthew Coulombe of Tijeras, age 16, intends to use his scholarship at New Mexico Young Actors. Matthew's parents are Anne and Matthew Coulombe of Tijeras. This is Matthew's second consecutive year receiving the scholarship.
• Mattea Demick, daughter of Jim and Cynthia Demick, is 13 years old. She lives in Peralta and will use her scholarship at Albuquerque Little Theatre.
• Katelyn Matthews of Albuquerque, age 15, is the daughter of Joy Matthews. She will use his scholarship at New Mexico Young Actors.
• Eleven-year-old Joseph Megill, 13-year-old Joshua Megill and 16-year-old Lee Megill, sons and daughter of David and Ann Megill, reside in Rio Rancho. The siblings intend to use their scholarships at New Mexico Young Actors. This is the second time the ATG has awarded scholarships to children from the same family.
• Isaac Montoya of Albuquerque, age 10, will also use his scholarship at New Mexico Young Actors. Isaac is the son of Michelle Montoya.

The Albuquerque Theatre Guild is a 501(c)(3), non-profit umbrella organization dedicated to making the Albuquerque area's rich live-theater scene better known to both residents and visitors alike. More theatrical performances take place every weekend here in Albuquerque than in any other U.S. city of its size. Our mission is to promote public awareness of theater in the greater Albuquerque area, to encourage the growth of theater audiences, to foster cooperation and collaboration among the member organizations, and to facilitate and assist the work of individual members involved in all aspects of theatrical production.
