The riveting power of Estéban's classical and nuevo flamenco guitar work has made him one of the most successful independent guitarists performing today. A former student of the legendary Andres Segovia of Spain, he is one of only 14 players in the world to be trained and fully endorsed by the father of the classical guitar.

Estéban's note playing is energetic yet sensitive, fiery, romantic and ebullient. His rhythmic leads are mixed fluidly, and melodious scales connect rhythm and percussion with passion.

Estéban's all-instrumental performance at the Spencer Theater on Saturday, July 23 at 8 p.m. features his invigorating guitar work and signature arrangements of pop, rock and classical favorites with the backing of his band: violinist Teresa Joy, a soulful and engaging stylist, drummer and percussionist Joe Morris, who's many recordings include tracks for major motion pictures and television shows, and keyboardist Raúl Yañez, a classically trained pianist and respected jazz piano clinician who has performed on stages around the world and with such greats as Sister Sledge, The Drifters, Pete Esquivedo Jr., among others.

Originally self-taught after receiving a guitar at age 9, Estéban garnered his virtuoso status through a long sojourn of sheer determination, intensive study and mastery of skill. Formally called Stephan Paul, the Carnegie Mellon graduate and Pittsburgh native was named Estéban by Segovia whom he had the chance to study with privately for five consecutive years. He earned that chance after leaving literally hundreds of messages asking for Segovia in cities all over the world.

"My life is meaningless unless I can study with you," he wrote. Finally after such a relentless pursuit, Segovia allowed Estéban to play for him, which led to an invitation to travel to Spain and receive personal instruction. Following those years of study, Estéban set out on his own performance career, proving to be a master talent that has successfully secured his dream in music. As one of only a small handful of musicians in the world who carries the coveted endorsement of Segovia, Estéban has topped the Billboard charts many times with his numerous albums, videos and DVD's, and has had first-time music history successes never before accomplished by any guitarist. His concerts are memorable moments of the heart, and whether he performs solo or with his band, the reviews are sensational and the experiences exceptional.

Excellent seats ($39-$89) are available ! Call the Spencer Box Office at 575.336.4800 or go online to www.spencertheater.com for tickets and information. A pre-performance beef & chicken fajita buffet ($20) is also available in the lobby at 6 p.m.
