It is a response to, and portrays fictional events before and after, Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun from 1959. Act I is set in 1959 as we witness the arguments that ensue as a white neighborhood struggles with the idea of a black family moving into the home where the story is set. In Act II the same cast portrays new characters in the same neighborhood circa 2009 as the now all black neighborhood resists the onslaught of gentrification.
