Take one part Guardians of the Galaxy, one part Monty Python, add a pinch of Buck Rogers, stir in some topical comedy - and the result is Rex Dexter of Mars, a new radio theatre production by Right Between the Ears, premiering July 21 at the 2018 KC Fringe Festival.

Written by Darrell Brogdon, Rex Dexter of Mars is based on a forgotten comic book character created in 1939 by Dick Briefer. For this 2018 re-imagination, interplanetary adventurer Rex Dexter - the first human born on Mars - is summoned to save the Earth from a runaway planet. Along the way Rex and his Martian gal pal Cynda tangle with mad scientists, killer robots, giant blobs, exploding planets and Donald Trump.

Staged as an episode of a 1930s radio serial, Rex Dexter of Mars will feature live sound effects - from squishy blob sounds to ray guns - and a symphonic score. The cast includes Michael Quentin Foster, Brie Henderson, David Martin, Jason Miller and Jerry Nevins. Sound effects will be performed on stage by Mary Ellen Kriegh.
Show times/dates at City Stage, Union Station are: Saturday, July 21 - 10:30pm Sunday, July 22 - 3:00pm Thursday, July 26 - 9:00pm Friday, July 27 - 7:30pm Saturday, July 28 - 6:00pm.
