Shout? As in the Aussie Johnny O'Keefe bio musical? Why is that so bad?

I'm guessing it's the show that toured the UK last year with Su Pollard and Claire Sweeney.

"The first ever UK tour of SHOUT! a groovy musical which takes you back to the fabulous, hazy days of the swinging 60s starring west-end and TV celebrity Claire Sweeney, and everyone's favourite Su Pollard, comes to Southampton in September.

Five gorgeous women and one lucky man will twist and shout, shimmy and shake while belting out classic, timeless hits including Downtown, Son Of A Preacher Man, I Only Wanna Be With You, To Sir With Love and These Boots Are Made For Walking. One fantastic soundtrack full of terrific pop songs which made big stars out of Cilla Black, Petula Clark, Lulu and Dusty Springfield.

Set in a hair-dressing salon, the audience are taken on an incredible musical journey around swinging London, capturing the amazing fashions, sexual liberation and great fun of the times. It's groovy baby!

From the same producers as smash-hits Fame, Saturday Night Fever, Footloose and The Wedding Singer, no matter if you were a child of the 60s or born in the 90s, Shout is a celebration of an era everyone wishes they could have experienced, and now you can. Ready, steady go!"

Is Shona White still in it, as I believe she was the only good thing about it!

DO NOT GO!!!!

One of the worst things I've ever seen....apart from one torch song from Pollard in Act 2

LOL
It played a very successful season last year at the Shaw Theatre in Euston-I guess it did so well its coming back!
I had heard that the production was cheaper than cheap which is a shame because the Off Broadway production and cast recording are pretty fantastic!

Oh god if its the Uk one that toured with Sweeney then run, run as fast as you can away from the theatre. This has to be right up there with Vampires Rock as one of the most pointless theatre pieces ive ever seen

Yeah, it was a pretty irritating cast.

Shona was amazing, as was Su Pollard!!! She can really sing (snd she is the lovliest- if craziest- person ever!). I know they are doing recasting, but apart from Su im not sure who is staying!

And yes, it was very cheap! Lol.

There was on Off-Broadway production. I'm not sure how well it did, but the Chicago production last year was something of a dud.

The original production of this was conceived/directed by Philip George (Obie winning director and one of the brains behind FORBIDDEN BROADWAY)and was first seen at the Jermyn Street Theatre, with great success back in 1999. Later it was expanded and did a Off Broadway run and subsequent U.S tour. Somewhere along the way it was adapted to suit an English audience and I sense that is where it changed for the worse. The song catalogue is terrific how could it not be good?

I've never forgiven Sweeney for 60 Minute makeover. Why didn't she do some work instead of stomping around knocking ladders and saying how great the Matalan vases look on the freshly painted windowsill. Also, why the bloody hell did she need a whistle? And another thing... if those people only work for 60 minutes, why the f*ck did they need a tea break?

Also, Sweenz looked like a tranny in Guys & Dolls.

LOL Lovepigeon

I have to say i dont mind sweeney but the shown itself just has no right to exist. The songs are fun but badly re orchestrated and show horned in to a non existent story, the set is horrid, the lighting is like something you would see in a high school play and the cast were working with nothing.

I agree with all that...PLUS...I thought Sweeney was appalling!
When I saw it the director was a few rows up taking notes...if only I'd been brave.....

I saw this on tour, it was pretty painful at times. My mate was working backstage and said that at the end Miss Sweeney walked back onto the stage and laid into the lighting guy in a very unlady like fashion for missing a cue. Said lighting operator pointed out he couldn't do anything if she couldn't find her light...

I realise I started this venomous thread, but my morbid curiosity has got the better of me and I'm actually going to see this on 22 April. What have I done?!
